Patchouli oil prices potentially translucent Rp 1 million per kg

Decline in patchouli oil production this year to 700-800 tonnes from 1,000 tonnes in 2009 and then make Indonesia to supply global markets shrink and prices led the increase. Moreover, Indonesian patchouli oil dominates the world market.

Togar R. Manurung, Chairman of the Essential Oil Association of Indonesia explained, in 2009 and then Indonesia could export patchouli oil of 1,000 tons, or 66.66% of world demand last year reached 1,500 tons. Indonesian patchouli oil was shipped to Europe by 30%, to the U.S. as much as 35% -40% and the rest to various countries around the world.

This year patchouli oil demand is still the same as last year. However, due to shrinkingsupply of patchouli oil, the price had soared to Rp 500,000 per kg at the level of collector. In fact, in August 2010 and patchouli oil prices are still around Rp 400,000 per kg.

Togar count, this increase in benefit exporters and farmers. When the volume of patchoulioil production continues to erode, he estimates the price of patchouli oil could touch $ 1million per kg at the beginning of next year.

Until now, Indonesia has been unable patchouli oil matched by other nations. Africa has a chance to compete with Indonesian patchouli oil. However, Togar count, Africa needsanother 5-6 years to get close to Indonesia. "There is less quality but China, India is alsoless successful developing patchouli," he said.
